What is Facilitation?

The act of making something easier.

In group work, the facilitator works with a group of people to help them have a conversation, come to agreement, or plan for the future.

In general, the facilitator acts as a trusted and neutral outside voice, making decisions about the process the group goes through but allowing the group to focus on and control the content of the discussion. The facilitator is a gentle guide, making it easier for the group to have that discussion.

Our method behind our successful and even magical delivery:
 

 

  • Systemic (not systematic) Understanding of the Issue
  • Process Thinking (Studying process definitions & process purposes impacting or creating the issue
  • Subtle and implicit Paradigms involved, which are at the heart of the issue
  • Pause (this gives us strength to hold on and not jump to a reactionary quick fix, we successfully pass it on to participants)
  • Experiential Processes (This enables participants to see and feel the impact of their innocent, well meaning unconscious actions and thinking which is resulting in the core issue at hand)
  • ​Appreciative Inquiry (To dig for the goodness that lies below huge debris of contradictory data and group experience)
Facilitating conversation in a group is also a high leverage leadership activity, and hence many times we conduct programs on coaching and training Senior Executives in Facilitation Skills.

A facilitator can also be a learning or dialogue guide to assist a group in thinking deeply about its assumptions, beliefs and values and about its systemic processes and context.”
